Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal doesn't need "big-name signings" this summer, says Edwin van der Sar

Louis van Gaal doesn’t need big-name signings to turn Manchester United into a brilliant side, according to Edwin van der Sar.
The Red Devils have already snapped up Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and promising Southampton left-back Luke Shaw in deals worth a combined £56m this summer.

However, Arsenal have landed Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, whilst Chelsea have snapped up former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas and are expected to sign Diego Costa.
But former United goalkeeper Van der Sar feels Van Gaal will be able to transform the Red Devils’s fortunes without a marquee summer signing.
“Louis van Gaal’s best quality is to create a team and to get a squad playing brilliant football,” Van der Sar told the Mirror.
“Over the last few weeks, the United fans have witnessed how he guided this young, inexperienced Dutch squad to the semi-finals – a squad which nobody gave a chance to finish in the top eight.
“Louis will arrive at Old Trafford with a glowing CV, based on the things he has done in European club football and on this World Cup in Brazil.”
Van Gaal signed a three-year deal to become the next United manager in May.
