Man United transfers: ‘Wayne Rooney should force Chelsea move’
Man United transfers: Blackpool manager Paul Ince says Wayne Rooney should force Chelsea move if he wants to leave
Paul Ince says Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney should “force” through a move to Chelsea if the striker wants to leave Old Trafford.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho has been thwarted in his attempts to bring the England international to Stamford Brdige, with the Red Devils rejecting two bids from the Europa League winners.
But former United midfielder Ince reckons Rooney should come out and publicly state whether he wants to stay at the Premier League champions or join the west London side.
“If Wayne wants to go, then it is up to him to force that issue,” said Ince.
“But Wayne has not said he wants to go or wants to stay; it would be nice to know what Wayne Rooney wants.”
Ince also suggested that Rooney may feel like that he needs a new challenge with Mourinho’s men after nine seasons at United.
“I do know that there comes a stage where players get stale,” he added.
“When you look at most players who go to Man United, apart from the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, they have something like a six-year tenure and then they move on.
“Whether that is the case for Wayne, I don’t know, but I do know that he needs to be playing football this season.
“He will not be prepared to play second fiddle to anybody because he is a world-class player and you expect world-class players to be playing football.”
