Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United’s clashes with Liverpool are the games he and his team-mates look forward to most and admits the rivalry between the two clubs “runs deep”.
United host the Reds at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon looking to stretch their lead at the top of the table to 10 points before Manchester City take on Arsenal later in the day.
Manchester United were 2-1 winners when the sides last did battle at Anfield back in September – and Ferdinand is hoping for a win in what he feels will be another fiery encounter.
“I would say it is the fixture we look forward to first. The rivalry runs deep,” said Ferdinand.
“Liverpool have not been up there fighting for the championship, but the fans and the players are well versed in what this means to us as a club.
“You just want to add your name and be a part of a team that joins that long list of events that have gone on.
“I always enjoy playing against Liverpool, either at Anfield or Old Trafford. Hopefully this is another good, exciting and winning occasion for us.”
