Man United’s David Moyes plans to build ‘exciting team’ after signing Juan Mata
Manchester United manager David Moyes says he is planning to build an "exciting team" after signing Juan Mata

David Moyes has spoken of his desire to “build an exciting team” after Manchester United signed Juan Mata in a club-record deal from Chelsea.
The 50-year-old, who missed out on Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara in the summer, finally landed a big-name signing on Saturday after Mata completed a £37.1m switch to the defending champions from title rivals Chelsea.
I want to win and give the supporters something to shout about because I’ve not done that often enough

The Scot has been heavily criticised since succeeding Red Devils legend Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford hot seat this summer, with United struggling to adapt to the new manager’s desired style of play.
But Moyes is hoping Mata’s arrival will be the first piece of his United puzzle as he bids to restore exciting football to the Theatre of Dreams.
“I want to build an exciting team,” Moyes told United’s website. “That’s always the way I’ve wanted my football to be played and I’ve not known it any other way.
“I want to win and give the supporters something to shout about because I’ve not done that often enough. What I will say is that this is the first of many more to come in time. I’m looking forward to Juan being the start of it.”
Despite promising Mata would be the first of many exciting signings, Moyes doesn’t expect United to recruit any other players during the January transfer window.
“I don’t think we’ll have any more in January,” Moyes added.
“I’m still working on it and looking to do things – we know exactly what we’d like to do and if it changes in the last week, which sometimes it can do, then we’ll try.
“I hope it will be the first of some new signings that will arrive, but more likely in the summer.”
