Man United’s David Moyes unable to give Wayne Rooney injury update
Manchester United boss David Moyes remains tight-lipped over Wayne Rooney's injury status ahead of a trip to Sunderland

David Moyes has refused to shed any light on Wayne Rooney’s fitness status ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Sunderland on Saturday.
The England international was a surprise absentee from the Red Devils side which drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League at Donbass Arena on Wednesday night.
Moyes revealed after the stalemate that the 27-year-old forward had picked up the knock following a training ground clash with fellow striker Danny Welbeck.
The United boss said in Ukraine: “My plan wasn’t to use him anyway, but he’s got an injury. He picked up a crack to the shin in training.”
“I hope so [that Rooney will start at Sunderland], it’s not that serious,” added Moyes.
“He took a clash of shins with Danny Welbeck and it’s just swollen up.”
However, at his pre-match media conference on Friday, Moyes admitted he had yet to speak to the striker at the Carrington training ground.
Moyes said: “I’ve not seen him yet this morning so I couldn’t give you an update.”
The 50-year-old Scot also played down the impact that a good point at Shakhtar could have on his side’s potential performance at Sunderland.
“The Champions League is separate from the Premier League. We’re concentrated on the league now. We’ve got really good players, they know themselves the standards they’ve set over the years and we’ll work together.”
