Manchester United defender Phil Jones admits Juan Mata's arrival has lifted their spirits after a 2-0 win against Cardiff

Phil Jones has admitted Manchester United’s club-record signing Juan Mata has lifted the Red Devils squad’s spirits.
The Spain international made his Unitded debut in a 2-0 win against Cardiff as his pass helped set up Robin van Persie’s opener, before feeding Ashley Young for the Red Devils’ second after half-time.

The 25-year-old playmaker completed a £37.1m transfer to Old Trafford on Saturday after failing to cement a regular starting spot under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea this season.
And Jones revealed that the United players are desperate to impress their new arrival as the defending champions bid to finish in the top four.
“It makes an impact in the dressing room when you sign a player of that calibre,” Jones told United’s website.
“He is such a talented player on the ball. He has definitely lifted spirits in the dressing room and especially in training. We want to impress and show him that we are what we are, that we are one of the best teams to be at.
“He came in against Cardiff. He has done well and I am sure he will be a huge asset and fantastic player for Manchester United, hopefully for many years to come.
“He sees the pass that sometimes no-one else sees. If he continues to make them, I am sure we will soon be climbing the table.”
