Wayne Rooney has urged Manchester United to carry their current Champions League form into their must-win clash against Stoke City on Saturday.

The Red Devils put on an impressive attacking display in their Group A clash as Wayne Rooney’s dazzling run and shot was eventually turned into the Sociedad net by Iñigo Martínez in the second minute at Old Trafford.

The reigning Premier League champions have won just one of their last four top-flight games, including losses to Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion, which has left them in eighth position and six points behind Arsenal.

And Rooney, who has scored five goals this season, wants the Red Devils to find a consistency to their game ahead of a tough clash against the Potters.

“We hope to take this momentum into Saturday,” Rooney said.

“We have been too inconsistent. We have to get that consistency about our game and hopefully this win is the start.

“Stoke is a massive game for us. We are already a few points behind in the league so we can’t drop any more at this stage. We need to make sure we get that win we need.”
