Man City’s Manuel Pellegrini coy on Joe Hart selection
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini refuses to confirm whether Joe Hart will start against Everton at The Etihad on Saturday
Manuel Pellegrini has refused to confirm whether the Manchester City manager intends to drop first-choice goalkeeper Joe Hart for the Everton clash on Saturday.
The England No1 was criticised for his performance in a 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League group-stage match at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
Hart has endured an error-strewn 18 months which has raised questions about the 25-year-old’s form and status as his club and country’s first-choice shot stopper.
Pellegrini has Costel Pantilimon as back-up to Hart, but the Chilean said he would decide on Saturday if Hart would start or be dropped to the bench for the Toffees fixture.
“I will decide tomorrow (Saturday) if he starts. I don’t tell you now if Joe will play because the players don’t know yet, I am always contemplating different things,” Pellegrini said.
“Of course Joe knows he must improve the way he is playing but he has our trust. Tomorrow I will decide.
“Of course, he feels that he didn’t do very well but I think he doesn’t have any problem.
“He continues with the trust of all the team and with our trust so we hope he will recover soon from what he did last match.”
