Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva says Michael Carrick was his pick for player of the season

Rafael Da Silva says Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick was the right-back’s pick for player of the season.
The England international excelled in the heart of Sir Alex Ferguson’s midfield as he was virtually ever-present throughout the course of United’s triumphant campaign.
The 31-year-old scored once and made four assists in 36 Premier League appearances this term, earning a PFA player of the year nomination for his efforts.
Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale scooped the award, but Rafael hailed United’s versatile midfielder and also reserved praise for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
“I think Robin, against Aston Villa. Against Southampton he scored a hat-trick too but he missed a penalty in that game,” Rafael told United’s website.
“It’s hard to pick some individuals as we have had so many good games. I can’t remember exactly but I know Vida and Rio helped a lot.
“Carrick this season too. I have to say he was my Player of the Season. I voted for him.”
Rafael is also confident United have a bright future, with the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Danny Welbeck all impressing throughout the course of the season.
“If you see all the players now, we are starting to get mature.
“We were young – me, Jones, Chris Smalling, David De Gea, Danny Welbeck – we were all young. Now we are getting to the age of 24 or 25 and that’s a good age.
“We need to improve every day.”
