Man United must forget talk of the Treble, warns Patrice Evra

Patrice Evra has warned Manchester United that they must only focus on their next game and ignore talk of a possible Treble this season.

United head into Saturday’s clash with Norwich City 12 points clear at the top of the table with 11 games left to play this season.

The Red Devils can reach the Champions League quarter-finals with victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men also face Chelsea in the last eight of the FA Cup.

But defender Evra insists that talk of United emulating the side that won the Treble in 1999 is premature and says he expects a tough test against Chris Hughton’s men.

“Every game is important now,” Evra told MUTV. “I hear a lot of people talking about the Treble and this is the wrong way [to do it] – you have to think game-after-game.

“If we start to think about Madrid before Norwich, then you lose to Norwich. It’s a big game and we have to win – if we go into Tuesday after losing against Norwich, it’s going to be a nightmare.

“Of course, Norwich are going to come here for a win. Don’t forget, we lost three points away. I know it was a difficult game but every team comes to win against Manchester United.

“I think the boss will pick a strong side. We have to be careful against Norwich, even if we have to rest some players, and have to play for winning that game.

“There can be a lot of talk if we lose and maybe City win their game [at Aston Villa] and are going to get back [in the race] for the Premier League.

“The Premier League is the priority. We won’t think about Madrid until Saturday, just after the game, and then we will have our recovery on Sunday.

“Every game is important. I even say friendly games with United are important.”
