Manuel Pellegrini: Man City must be at their best v Bayern Munich

Manuel Pellegrini admits Manchester City must be at their best for 90 minutes if the Citizens want to secure a positive result against Bayern Munich.

The Citizens produced a near-perfect performance to secure an emphatic 4-1 victory over Manchester United but failed to build on the derby win as they suffered a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

City made their first-ever winning start to a Champions League group-stage campaign at Viktoria Plzen in their Group D opener, and Pellegrini knows the Citizens must be at their best against the reigning champions.

“We need to play for 90 minutes in the best way, knowing that with every mistake or error we can concede a goal,” Pellegrini said. “It is very important to concentrate for the whole 90 minutes.”

The Chilean has never beaten Pep Guardiola during his time as Villarreal, Málaga and Real Madrdid boss, but Pellegrini wants three points against Munich on Wednesday night.

“We will to try to win our points at home – Bayern is a very strong team but we’re also in a good moment and hopefully we can get the three points here,” he added.

“We never think about a draw. If we cannot win it’s better to draw than lose but we’re not going to go onto the pitch thinking a draw against Bayern. From the first minute we will go for three points.”
