Mauricio Pochettino remaining committed to Southampton
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino insists he is staying at the Saints despite Nicola Cortese's resignation

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he intends to continue as Southampton manager despite the resignation of Saints chairman Nicola Cortese.
The Argentinian’s future appeared to be in doubt following the Italian’s exit after previously insisting that he would walk if the chairman left the south coast club.

Cortese, who was responsible for appointing Pochettino as Nigel Adkins’ successor in January 2012, masterminded Southampton’s rise from League One to the Premier League.
Club owner Katharina Liebherr has appointed herself as non-executive chairman following Cortese’s departure, and Pochettino believes he has a responsibility to remain committed to the Saints.
“I am staying as manager,” Pochettino told BBC Radio Solent. “I have a professional responsibility to everyone at the club and the fans.”
Pochettino added that he has spoken to Liebherr to seek assurances surrounding his position and the future of Southampton.
“It’s been a great shock for all of us, it all happened so quickly,” Pochettino added.
“It’s a sad situation. We all had a special relationship with him.
“I spoke with Nicola. I told him I have a responsibility to the club and informed him of my decision to stay and he agreed.
“My terms and role will not change and my commitment will not change.”
