Liverpool are expected to complete the £1.5 million signing of Argentine Maxi Rodriguez within the next 48 hours.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder has only six months remaining on his contract and it has afforded Reds boss Rafa Benitez the opportunity to snap up the highly-rated right winger.

Rodriguez will join up with his close friend Javier Mascherano and compatriot Emiliano Insua at Anfield.

It was originally thought that Rodriguez would sign a six-month loan deal with the Reds, but according to media reports the 29-year-old was keen to make the deal permanent. Subsequently Benitez threw together an 18-month contract to offer the player.

Rodriguez currently earns around £85,000-a-week but is expected to take a pay cut at Anfield. The move could spark the end of Dirk Kuyt’s run on the right wing with the striker now shuffling back to his more natural attacking role, providing back up for Fernando Torres.

The move could be funded by the combined sales of Andriy Voronin and Andrea Dossena.

Dinamo Moscow are expected to lure Ukrainian striker Voronin to Russia in the next 24 hours for the sum of £2 million. In addition, Dossena’s £4 million move to Napoli is dependent on the left back successfully under going a medical unscathed.
