Mesut Ozil has handed Arsenal an injury boost by returning to training on Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stoke City.

The Germany international sat out last weekend’s 4-1 win over Sunderland at Emirates Stadium due to a dead leg after a jaded performance in the Gunners’ 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old playmaker was allowed an extra day off from Arsenal duty to allow him time to return to Germany this week as he looks to recapture some of his early-season form.

And the midfielder looks set to return to the Gunners’ squad for the trip to the Britannia Stadium after his return to training following his extended break.

Ozil wrote on his Facebook page: “Back in training after my injury. getting ready for the match on saturday. ‪#‎bpl‬ ‪#‎coyg‬”

The news comes after Ozil’s Germany team-mate Thomas Mueller said that the playmaker looks exhausted from a gruelling first season in England.

“It’s not easy for Mesut because you have to play so many games – I don’t know how many games he has played for Arsenal without having a break,” Mueller said.

“In the Bundesliga we have just had a month off. In England it’s very hard to be a professional footballer. You have any more games than we do in Germany.”
