Michael Ballack reacts to Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to PSG
Michael Ballack was impressed by Chelsea's performance in their 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday
Michael Ballack believes that Chelsea can take plenty of positives from their 2-1 Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
PSG took the lead at Parc des Princes when Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s free-kick deflected in off John Obi Mikel in the Chelsea wall.
It should give them confidence and hopefully they can repeat this performance
However, the visitors drew level in first-half stoppage time when Mikel powered home from close range.
Edinson Cavani then came off the bench to restore the Ligue 1 side’s lead when he slotted his finish past Thibaut Courtois in the 78th minute to hand PSG the advantage heading into the return leg in London in three weeks’ time.
The result means that Chelsea could progress through to the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge next month.
And former Chelsea midfielder Ballack was thoroughly impressed by what he saw from the Blues in Paris.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ballack said: “They put this effort in – I have to give them a compliment because they looked fresh from the start.
“They were always attacking – if you see [Diego] Costa and Pedro up front until the end how they chased the ball.
“They looked really good and they were a little bit disappointed which they don’t have to be after that result, especially after the performance.
“It should give them confidence and hopefully they can repeat this performance at home.”
Chelsea’s next game is their FA Cup fifth-round clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
