Michael Carrick says Manchester United are ready to move on from the Sir Alex Ferguson era after the Scot’s final game in charge on Sunday.
The 71-year-old signed off with a 5-5 thriller against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns as United finished the season 11 points clear of second-placed Manchester City.
David Moyes has already been named as Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford and the Everton boss ended his 11-year reign with a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
And Carrick, who was nominated for the PFA’s player of the year award, is looking forward to a new challenge under the Toffees manager as United look to retain their Premier League crown next term.
“We’ve thanked the manager for everything he’s done and he’s thanked us,” the midfielder told Sky Sports.
“It was a funny time in the dressing room because of the situation.
“It is starting to sink in as we’ve had a couple of weeks to digest the news.
“We’re ready to move on. We’ve had a busy couple of weeks and there is a new challenge ahead for all of us to look forward to.”
Carrick scored two goals in 44 appearances for the Red Devils this season, taking his tally 21 strikes in his United career after a £14m move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
