Duberry, Luiz & more: Twitter reacts as Chelsea beat Man City
Michael Duberry and David Luiz both tweet their thoughts after Chelsea are 1-0 winners at Manchester City

Branislav Ivanovic’s first-half strike helped Chelsea draw level on points with second-placed Manchester City as the Blues were deserved 1-0 winners at The Etihad.
The Serbian defender finished from the edge of the area in the 32nd minute before Blues duo Gary Cahill and Nemanja Matic hit the woodwork in the second half.
Unsurprisingly, there was a big reaction on Twitter to Jose Mourinho’s tactical masterclass, and here is the best of the reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order.
Rugby star and Chelsea supporter Danny Cipriani (@DannyCipriani87) isn’t happy after Willian spurned an early chance: “And we sell Mata…”
Everton midfielder Darron Gibson (@D_gibson4) is well-placed to judge speculative efforts: “Great strike!!!”
Another long-range expert, former Wolves midfielder Alex Rae (@alexrae1969) heaps praise on the Serbian: “What what a strike from @Ivanovic”
Chelsea fan Jordan Stewart (@jordanstewart3) enjoys the moment: “POWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! 1-0. Let’s do this @chelseafc!”
Former City midfielder Vladimir Weiss (@VladiW7) is a huge fan of Eden Hazard: “I’m probably gonna say this a couple more times tonight but Hazard is a joke…”
Ex-Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris (@morriskid) reckons Pablo Zabaleta is struggling to mark Hazard: “@hazardeden10 has had Zabaleta on toast this first 45mins…”
England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) can’t believe Manuel Pellegrini has left Martin Demichelis on the pitch as the second half starts: “Good heavens! Demichelis has come out for the 2nd half. Certainly never appeared in the first.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) likes the look of Nemanja Matic: “Matic looks a great addition for Chelsea as Mikel hasn’t progressed, Hazard makes all the difference going forward. He’s a joy to watch.”
QPR midfielder Joey Barton (@Joey7Barton) picks Matic as his man-of-the-match: “Matic currently out Toure-ing Yaya Toure. Won’t see many do that. Bigger, stronger and quicker than him. Must be 6’4+… […] Mourinho. Tip of the hat to you Sir. Tactically exceptional. Still think City win the title. That’s the difference a top coach makes.”
Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) is touting John Terry for an England call-up: “John Terry. Like him, don’t like him, one thing is true.. He’s a football warrior who you want in your team.”
Former Southampton defender Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) reckons Mourinho’s delivered the best tactical performance – EVER: “Best Premier League tactical performance in my memory. Chelsea fantastic defensively and effective on the break. Made the pitch small when without ball.”
Andros Townsend’s father Troy Townsend (@Towno10) jokes what Mourinho said in the post-match handshake: “Mourinho just said to Pellegrini, ‘Bus, what Bus?’”
Former Chelsea centre-half Michael Duberry (@Original_Dubes) revels in his former side’s triumph: “Like I said this morning!! There will only be ONE Blue flag flying high tonight!! @chelseafc #Winners”
Finally, Chelsea defender David Luiz (@DavidLuiz_4) thanks the supporters: “A very important win against Man City! Thanks for your support!”
