Michael Owen states his prediction for Chelsea v Roma
The Liverpool legend is tipping Chelsea to ease to victory over Roma in the Champions League on Wednesday night
Michael Owen is backing Chelsea to respond to their recent Premier League setbacks with a comfortable win against Roma at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The defending Premier League champions suffered a 2-1 loss to the division’s basement club Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea have now lost back-to-back Premier League games following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City and their setback against Palace at the weekend.
The Blues are nine points behind Pep Guardiola’s men after eight games to leave the defending champions with an uphill task in the title race.
Chelsea will return to Champions League action at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night when the Blues welcome Serie A outfit AS Roma to the English capital.
The west London side were 6-0 winners against Qarabag in their first home game before a brilliant 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in Spain before the international break.
Former Liverpool striker Owen is confident Chelsea will ease to victory over the Italian club in west London to make a return to winning ways.
“The Blues did bookmakers, and Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, a favour at the weekend losing 2-1 at Selhurst Park but they are a much better side on home soil and should beat a Roma side left licking their wounds from Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Napoli in Serie A,” Owen told Metro.
Chelsea are looking to win the Champions League for the first time since 2012 when the Blues beat Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the final at the Allianz Arena.
