Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen suggested that Mourinho will already be confident of winning the Premier League title next season.
“You’d have to say they’ll be one of the favourites for the Premier League again,” Owen told BT Sport.
“The run they went on in the middle part of the season was top of the table form. Jose will be looking at next year and thinking the Premier League is their main aim.”
Manchester United appointed Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor back in May 2016 after a disappointing fifth-placed finish.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup back in February thanks to a 3-2 win against Southampton at Wembley.
Mourinho’s side won the Community Shield in their first competitive game under the Portuguese coach at the start of the 2016-17 season.
