Michel Platini: Chelsea’s Eden Hazard one of Europe’s best young players
Uefa president Michel Platini names Eden Hazard and Paul Pogba as most exciting talents in European football
Michel Platini hails Chelsea forward Eden Hazard and Juventus star Paul Pogba as the most exciting young European talents.
The Blues forward, who is currently being linked with Paris Saint-Germain, was named PFA young player of the year after scoring 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances this season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Pogba has been instrumental in helping Juventus secure back-to-back Serie A titles after the France international left Old Trafford in 2012.
And ex-Juve midfielder and Uefa president Platini earmarked Hazard and Pogba as the two best young players in Europe during a Q&A session on popular social media site Facebook on Thursday.
“It depends on the definition of ‘young’,” Platini said.
“There is an exciting new generation of players in Europe, too many to name! Two that come to mind are Hazard and Pogba. I like it that they speak French!”
Newly-crowned La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and Copa del Rey winners Real Madrid are set to do battle in Lisbon on Saturday night for the Champions League crown.
Asked to name his favourite final in the past decade, Platini picked Liverpool’s dramatic victory over AC Milan on penalties after the 2005 final finished in a 3-3 draw following extra-time.
“All the finals are very exciting. The one that stands out is the AC Milan v Liverpool FC final in 2005. It was astonishing,” Platini added.
