Monaco are edging ever closer to completing the signing of Radamel Falcao, the club’s sporting director has confirmed.
Chelsea were understood to be keen in securing the services of the prolific forward, who netted a sensational first-half hat-trick against the Blues for Atletico Madrid in last August’s European Super Cup.
But Monaco are now on the verge of finalising a deal thought to be worth around £50m for the 27-year-old Colombian, who has scored 28 goals in 34 La Liga appearances this season.
“Things are progressing well, but it’s not finalised yet, there are still some details to sort out,” Vadim Vasilyev told French radio station RMC.
“We really want to complete the transfer of this great player.
“He is among the best players in the world, we will be very happy when he signs. He really believes in the future of Monaco.”
Falcao, who was also linked with Manchester City, is reportedly set to earn around £8.5m a year at Monaco and is understood to have agreed a five-year contract.
Monaco this season secured promotion back to Ligue 1 and have already splashed £60m on Porto duo Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.
The French side, bankrolled by Russian Dmitry Rybolovlev – who is reported to be worth around £6bn, have also signed Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho on a one-year contract.
