Mourinho gives latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Man City clash
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reveals that centre-halves Gary Cahill and John Terry won't face Manchester City
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Chelsea centre-halves Gary Cahill and John Terry won’t feature in their FA Cup fifth-round tie against Manchester City on Saturday.
The current England international is set to be sidelined for the cup clash between the two Premier League title contenders after suffering an abductor injury in the second half a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.
He was injured in the calf against West Brom and didn’t finish the training sessions in the best condition
And Mourinho revealed that the former Bolton Wanderers defender had attempted in vain to train in a bid to be fit for the clash, with the Blues already light on centre-halves following John Terry’s continued spell on the sidelines.
“I think Cahill is not [fit],” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference at Cobham.
“He was injured in the calf against West Brom and didn’t finish the training sessions in the best condition and he is going for a scan. He tried to train.”
Asked if captain John Terry would be fit, Mourinho informed journalists at his FA Cup preview: “No”.
When it was suggested that free-scoring Branislav Ivanovic could switch to centre-half for the Citizens clash, Mourinho added: “Maybe.”
