Napoli 3 Swansea 1: Player ratings
Napoli 3 Swansea 1: Player ratings as Garry Monk's men go down valiantly in the Europa League
Napoli
Jose Reina Left helpless as Emnes lifted an attempt over the goalkeeper, who is on loan from Liverpool, but rescued by compatriot Albiol. Denied Routledge a chance to give Swansea lead. Gratefully collected Bony’s second-half header into his chest. Brilliant late save to deny Swansea. 8
Cristian Maggio Didn’t follow de Guzman’s run as the Dutch midfielder equalised on the half-hour mark. 5
Raul Albiol The experienced Spanish defender recovered well to clear Emnes’s attempt after the Swansea forward had beaten Reina. Struggled against Bony. 6
Buss Henrique Left on his bottom as Bony jinked past the Napoli centre-half and tested Reina. Never comfortable against Swansea’s powerful front-man. 5
Faouzi Ghoulam Appeared to catch Swansea defender Tiendalli after sticking out an aimless leg in the Napoli area. On the back foot as Routledge looked to break down the wing. 5
Gokhan Inler Asked to press the Swansea midfield to disrupt their passing game. Endeavoured to do so but not at his most effective. Netted a late third with Swansea pushing players up the pitch. 7
Valon Behrami Like Inler, the Swiss midfielder tried to harry his Swansea counterparts but the Welsh side gradually had more and more space to operate. Very much the fulcrum in midfield as he attempted to spur his more attacking team-mates forward. 6
Jose Maria Callejon Wasn’t at his most effective as the winger saw little possession and wasted what chance he had to affect the last-32 tie. Fortunate not to be substituted instead of the eye-catching Insigne. Denied a goal in the closing moments by desperate Swansea defending. 5
Goran Pandev Had a chance to double Napoli’s lead within minutes of Insigne’s strike but dragged a finish the wrong side of Vorm’s post. Replaced early in the second half as his energy waned. 5
Lorenzo Insigne Showed composure to lift his finish over Vorm in the 16th minute. A mazy run left Dyer and Tiendalli in his wake but his shot was smothered out for a corner by Chico. Napoli’s most threatening outlet. 8
Gonzalo Higuain The £35m signing skied a chance to test Vorm in the 15th minute. Flicked a header into the path of Isigne for the opener. The Real Madrid man looked to have lost his battle with the Swansea defence but popped up with a winner 10 minutes from time. 8

Swansea
Michel Vorm Was left looking at the stars in the Naples sky as Insigne lifted his finish over the Dutch goalkeeper. Largely untested otherwise. 6
Dwight Tiendalli Allowed Insigne to run free after pushing up with Chico, despite Davies holding a deep position. Denied a second-half penalty after a clash with Ghoulam. Was dragged around the pitch by Callejon in the final 15 minutes but hung on. 6
Ashley Williams Could only vent at Tiendalli after Insigne made the most of a malfunction in the Swansea defence. However, the Swansea captain managed to restore order to his back four and produced a strong performance in the face of a supposedly world-class striker. Sepnt the final minutes up the pitch as Swansea chased for an equaliser. 7
Chico Looked shaky like the rest of his defence in the opening quarter but managed to steady himself and helped Swansea get through late pressure, including putting his face in the way of an Inler effort. 7
Ben Davies Played Insigne onside when the rest of his Swansea defensive colleague had pushed up. Managed to contain Callejon. Great block to deny Higuain with the second leg becomingly increasingly stretched. 7
Jose Alberto Canas A few carleless passes as Swansea wobbled following Insigne’s opener. Grew into the game as Swansea got the upper-hand. 6
Jonathan de Guzman Attempted to find his reign with a long-range effort. Duly found it in the 30th minute as he collected Bony’s pass and fired low past Reina. Dangerous breaking from midfield but unable to emulate his first-half strike. 7
Wayne Routledge His pace caused Napoli trouble and denied a shooting opportunity by Reina, who rushed off his line expertly. 6
Marvin Emnes Had an attempt cleared of the goal-line by Albiol. Was a threat breaking from the Swansea half and looked at ease at Europa League level. 7
Pablo Hernandez Was a threat cutting inside from the left wing. Had a couple of attempts blocked. 6
Wilfried Bony The Ivorian proved that he is not just a goal-scorer with a delicate touch with angled the ball into de Guzman’s path for Swansea’s leveller. Terorrised the Napoli defence with his pace and strength. Did waste the visitors’s best chance of the second half as his header was straight at Reina. 8
