Napoli’s Edinson Cavani: I’m focused on Chelsea, not my future

Napoli's Edinson Cavani insists the recent speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League has not unsettled him

Edinson Cavani is ignoring reports linking him with a move to the Premier League, insisting his only concern is helping Napoli overcome Chelsea and reach the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday.

The prolific 25-year-old forward has netted 24 goals in 34 appearances this term, leading to inevitable speculation suggesting Napoli’s top scorer could seal a big money move to Chelsea or Manchester City in the summer.

But Cavani, who scored in the first leg of the last-16 tie against Chelsea, insists his immediate future lies in Naples.

“Playing with my team-mates is great,” said Cavani. “In the dressing room you can find all types of players – there are humble ones and arrogant ones.

“But I am lucky because I have found a great group of team-mates and I’m not thinking about my future.

“We had a tough time but we’ve come out of it as a group. Football is football. Anything can happen. I might stay here for another three or five years.

“[But] I must focus on the game on Wednesday and nothing else concerns me. I won’t think about the long-term.”

Cavani, who spent three seasons at Palermo before moving to Napoli in 2010, will make his 200th appearance for an Italian side on Wednesday night.

But he insisted personal milestones mean nothing and that helping Walter Mazzarri’s side reach the quarter-finals is his priority.

“I can’t say it [the Chelsea game] is going to be like any other match – it will be very important for us,” Cavani added.

“It’s fantastic to be there tomorrow playing a match like this. When the referee blows the whistle we’ll forget about everything and focus on the match.”
