Nathan Ake sends message to Chelsea fans about his future
Nathan Ake admits that he is hoping to get a more regular spot in the first team at Chelsea next season
Nathan Ake has admitted that he is hoping to get more of a regular run in the first team at Chelsea next season.
The young defender was recalled back to Stamford Bridge in January after Antonio Conte chose to cut short his loan spell at Bournemouth, where he had been in impressive form.
Ake made a handful of appearances for the west London side in the second half of the season but was not a first-choice defender under Conte at Stamford Bridge.
The Dutchman will be hoping to hold down a more regular role in the first team next season as Chelsea look to compete for honours on four fronts.
However, the defender has admitted that he wants to be playing more regular football as he revealed that he will hold talks with the club in the coming weeks.
Speaking to the Guardian, Ake said: “I know what you mean, because when I was 17, 18, 19, you are happy you are going to be involved, or be on the bench, or get some minutes.
“But I think at my age now, you want to play a little bit more, also because I had a taste of it.
“Of course you also know this is a big club, so there will be big players and it’s not easy to come into the team.
“I just need to see what is going to happen with Michael [Emenalo, the technical director] or the manager. We have to talk and see what is best.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title this season but missed out on the FA Cup after they were beaten by Arsenal in Saturday’s final.
