Newcastle 0 Man City 2: Cheick Tiote bemused by disallowed goal
Newcastle 0 Man City 2: Cheick Tiote expresses his bemusement at his disallowed goal in the first half at St James' Park
Cheick Tiote admitted he couldn’t understand why referee Mike Jones disallowed his first-half strike after Newcastle United were beaten by Manchester City.
The Citizens took an eighth-minute lead through Edin Dzeko after the Bosnian produced a composed finish past Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul at St James’ Park.

Tiote appeared to have levelled before half-time but Jones disallowed the goal after he deemed that Yoan Gouffran had impeded Joe Hart’s view of the strike.
Magpies striker Loic Remy missed a brace of chances after the interval before Alvaro Negredo continued his fine goal-scoring form with City’s second in injury time.
“I think it was a goal and I don’t know why the referee didn’t accept it, but sometimes that’s football and you have to get on with it,” Tiote told BBC Sport.
“We asked the referee to explain why he didn’t give the goal, but he didn’t say anything so we had to get on with it.
“I think it was Gouffran who got in the way of my shot when he was next to the goalkeeper, but he didn’t touch the ball.
“He wasn’t interfering with my shot, so I’m not sure why the assistant gave it offside.”
