Newcastle 2 Hull City 3: Steve Bruce could not hide his delight after victory at St James' Park moves his side up to 10th place
Steve Bruce could not hide his delight after victory at Newcastle hoisted Hull City up to 10th place in the Premier League table.
The Magpies had taken the lead at St James’ Park when summer signing Loic Remy nodded home in the 10th minute – but Robbie Brady equalised for the visitors soon after.
Remy, on loan from QPR, then put the hosts ahead again on the stroke of half-time but Brady’s free-kick was headed in by Ahmed Elmohamady shortly after the restart.
And Sone Aluko’s sumptuous 76th-minute volley won it for Bruce’s men as they notched up their second win of the new season.
“I’m absolutely delighted I have to say,” Bruce told BBC Sport. “I’ve been really happy with the way we’ve played all season.
“We created a lot of chances today and we thoroughly deserved our win.
“I’m a Geordie at the end of the day and I’ve always enjoyed coming back, apart from last time (when his Sunderland side lost 5-1 to the Magpies) but today was very satisfying.
“George Boyd did wonderfully well and Aluko’s shot went in off the post. I think he can light up this league.”
