Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to ease to a straightforward victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday evening.

The Merseyside outfit will make the trip to Newcastle in pursuit of a ninth successive Premier League victory to keep the pressure on defending champions Manchester City.

Liverpool FC are in second place in the Premier League table and a point behind defending champions Manchester City in the title race with two games to go.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be hoping to beat Newcastle to hoist themselves to the top of the table and put pressure on Manchester City ahead of their home clash with Leicester.

Ironically, former Liverpool FC managers Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers are in charge of Newcastle and Leicester respectively.

Former England international Owen is tipping Liverpool FC to win by two clear goals against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday night.

“Liverpool have it all to do as they try and overturn a three-goal deficit from the 1st leg of their Champions League semi-final with Barcelona midweek, but they cannot get ahead of themselves and must win at St James’ Park on Saturday as they try and keep the pressure on Manchester City in the race for the PL title,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The Reds were, arguably, unlucky not to find the back of the Barca net on at least one occasion midweek but they can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves. I expect Jurgen Klopp to have them fired up for the trip to a Newcastle side who did, of course, beat City 2-1 at home earlier on the season.

“The Magpies have only lost one of their last six home league games against the Reds and won’t go down without a fight, but I feel it would be fitting this season if the title race went right down to the wire.”

Liverpool FC suffered a 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Camp Nou last week.

The Reds do have a history of overturning 3-0 scorelines in the Champions League, most memorably coming from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan on penalties in 2005.

Klopp’s side lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final last term.
