Nicklas Bendtner is as confident as ever, says Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger praises for Nicklas Bendtner after the striker helps Arsenal reach the fourth round of the League Cup at West Brom
Arsene Wenger reserved special praise for Nicklas Bendtner after the striker helped Arsenal reach the fourth round of the League Cup following a penalty shootout win over West Bromwich Albion.
The Danish forward, who pulled on an Arsenal shirt for the first time since 2011 at The Hawthorns, set up Thomas Eisfeld’s second-half opener before the north Londoners were pegged back by Saido Berahino’s close-range header.
Arsenal eventually triumphed on penalties, with Nacho Monreal netting the decisive spot-kick – and Wenger was delighted with Bendtner’s display after he opted to keep the 25-year-old at the club this summer.
“One thing you don’t question too much with him is his confidence,” said Wenger.
“I believe for Nicklas Bendtner the most important thing is to stay fit physically and after that he has the talent.
“In England you know him well. For him it’s important that he’s consistently present and he works hard physically because he has the top qualities.
“The fans were absolutely fantastic. Even when West Brom came back to 1-1 they encouraged us and they encouraged Nicklas.
“Overall I think he had a good game for a guy who has not played for such a long time on his own up front. He did very well.”
Arsenal, who will face Chelsea for a place in the League Cup quarter-finals, travel to Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday.
