Norwich 1 Fulham 1: Meulensteen hails Stockdale’s ‘Banks-like’ save
Norwich 1 Fulham 1: Rene Meulensteen hails David Stockdale's "Gordon Banks-like save" to deny Ricky van Wolfswinkel
Rene Meulensteen hailed David Stockdale’s “Gordon Banks-like save” after Fulham earned a replay against Norwich City at Carrow Road.
The Cottagers took a 39th-minute lead courtesy of England striker Darren Bent after he converted Chris David’s cross past Norwich shot stopper John Ruddy.

However Chris Hughton’s men did hit back thanks to Scotland international Robert Snodgrass, who headed Josh Murphy’s cross past Stockdale on the stroke of half-time.
But the Cottagers shot stopper helped prevent the London side suffering a third-round exit with a standout second-half save to deny Ricky van Wolfswinkel from six yards.
“We didn’t want a replay, I think Chris [Hughton] didn’t want it either, but that’s how it turned out. A draw’s a good result away from home,” Meulensteen told BBC Sport.
“David Stockdale had a Gordon Banks-like save to keep us in the game.
“It was definitely one of the best saves I have seen. It was a fantastic cross by
[Javier] Garrido and a great leap by Van Wolfswinkel.
“I honestly thought it was in but it was a fantastic save. That’s what makes football so exciting sometimes.”
