Chris Hughton described seeing his Norwich side secure their Premier League survival as a feeling of “massive pride” after the Canaries thrashed West Bromwich at Carrow Road.

Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring for the home side in the 25th minute before Grant Holt doubled their lead on the hour-mark.

A Gareth McAuley own goal then put the Canaries 3-0 up, before Jonathan Howson completed the rout in the 90th minute.

The win moves Norwich up to 12th place in the table and Hughton was delighted with his side’s battling spirit.

“It’s a feeling of massive pride and we made life quite difficult in the second half of the season but that’s an indication of how tough this league is,” Hughton told BBC Sport.

“We have to fight for every win and were in a downward spiral we found it difficult to get out of.

“There were nerves and anxiety. We were desperate to stay in the Premier League and knew a win would make sure we retained our Premier League status and the way we went about it from the first minute was excellent.”

West Brom boss Steve Clarke was bitterly disappointed with the defeat, with his side in eighth place.

“We were very disappointing,” he said. “From the off Norwich were on top of us, we couldn’t get a foothold and were second best for most of the game.”

Norwich travel to Manchester City for their final Premier League game next Sunday.
