Norwich 1 Southampton 0: Hughton hails match-winner Redmond
Norwich City 1 Southampton 0: Chris Hughton singles out Nathan Redmond for special praise after teenager's winner against Saints
Chris Hughton singled out Nathan Redmond for special praise after the teenager’s first Premier League goal gave Norwich City victory over Southampton.
After a goalless first half, the 19-year-old Redmond cut in from the left and fired a low shot past Saints shot-stopper Artur Boruc in the 68th minute at Carrow Road to hand the Canaries their first league win of the season.
And Hughton was thrilled with the impact of Redmond, a £3.2m signing from Birmingham City, after watching his side move up to eighth place in the Premier League table.
“He played very well and we are putting together a good team,” Hughton told BBC Sport. “Nathan’s form at the end of last season was very good for Birmingham and he has managed to continue that here.”
The Norwich boss was thrilled to see his side notch up their first victory of the new campaign ahead of their trip to Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.
“At this stage of the season we are just delighted with the win,” he continued.
“We had got a very good point against Everton, but then it was disappointing to lose against Hull last week so it was important we got the three points.”
