Olivier Giroud wants talks with Arsenal legend over jibe
Olivier Giroud has hit back at Thierry Henry over the Arsenal legend's recent comments
Olivier Giroud says he wants to quiz Thierry Henry about the former Arsenal striker’s apparent jibe against him.
Gunners legend Henry was quoted as saying that Arsenal will need to sign a “top, top quality striker” if they are to challenge for the Premier League title in 2015-16 towards the end of last season.
Giroud was quick to hit back at the Arsenal goal-scoring legend, branding his comments “dull”.
But Giroud says he is now ready to clear the air with Henry and discuss the situation “between two men” ahead of the start of the new campaign.
Giroud is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror: “When you’re a footballer, you don’t have to listen to people commenting about your performance.
“The main thing is not to have any doubt when you miss a chance or miss a game, it can happen sometimes.
“The best thing is to forget about the comment straight away, keep the head up and not let it affect your qualities. I know Thierry and I knew what he meant.
“If I see him we will have a conversation between two men. I’m not angry against him, but it’s true that I didn’t understand at first.
“But I think he reacted about his words and explained them more. I’m not going to be upset about that. I’m sleeping well and as long as my family is OK, that’s the main thing. So it doesn’t affect me much.”
Arsenal, who are currently on tour in Singapore as they continue their pre-season preparations, have been linked with a big-money move for Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain in recent days.
The Gunners kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United on the opening weekend of the season.
