Michael Owen is backing Tottenham Hotspur to beat Olympiacos in Greece on Wednesday night.

Spurs are preparing for their first Champions League game since a disappointing 2-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the Madrid final last term.

Tottenham managed to reach their first Champions League final thanks to an incredible run which saw the Lilywhites beat Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have made a mixed start to the new Premier League season but Tottenham returned to winning ways at the weekend thanks to a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Tottenham will take on Olympiacos for the first time in the current Champions League format, with the sides previously meeting in the Uefa Cup back in 1972.

Spurs won the first leg 4-0 in London before a 1-0 defeat by Olympiacos in Greece in the return fixture.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Tottenham to ease past Olympiacos in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night.

“Olympiacos have not won in their last eight Champions League group games (L7 D1) and I would be disappointed if last season’s beaten finalists didn’t make a winning start as they bid to go one better this season,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The hosts scored five in the Greek Superleague at the weekend and have only conceded once in nine competitive games so far this term.

“They have not been meeting sides of the quality of the north London outfit, however, and I expect the Premier League side, who warmed up with their best performance of the season against Palace on Saturday, to take maximum points in Athens.”

Spurs have lost three of their last four matches in the Champions League, despite managing to reach the final last season.

Tottenham have qualified for the Champions League in the last four seasons under their Argentinian coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Olympiacos haven’t lost a game at home in Uefa competitions in their last nine outings.
