Park Ji-Sung could retire when his Queens Park Rangers contract expires in 2014, according to the midfielder’s father.

The 32-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under both Mark Hughes and Harry Redknapp at the Premier League’s basement side after completing a £4m move to the Hoops from Manchester United last summer.

Park, who won four Premier League titles during a seven-year career at Old Trafford, penned a two-year deal with QPR in July but Park Sung-Jong believes that it could be his last.

“My son has had difficult times at QPR this season; it was a new experience to him,” Park senior told Sports Chosun. “He’s never had times like this with PSV Eindhoven or Manchester United.

“Nobody knows the future; maybe he could play one more year with a new team after next season. But I think [Ji-Sung] has made his mind up to retire.”

Park spent three seasons at Japan’s Kyoto Purple Sanga before being snapped up by Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven in 2002.

The Champions League winner has been linked with a move to South Korea’s top flight when his QPR deal ends, but Park senior does not expect his son to play in the K-League.

“He won’t play in the K-League,” he added. “He wants Korean football to be popular but he wouldn’t be able to perform well.

“He thinks he’s played enough.”
