Pellegrini gives latest Man City injury update ahead of League Cup final
Sergio Agüero back available and will undergo a late fitness test to determine if he can start Manchester City's clash with Sunderland
Sergio Aguero will undergo a late fitness test to determine if he will start Manchester City’s League Cup final clash with Sunderland on Sunday, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.
The Argentina international has not featured for the Citizens since injuring his hamstring in the 5-1 win at Tottenham back in January.
It is not easy to choose the starting XI. All the players deserve to start
Pellegrini also confirmed that Stevan Jovetic (hamstring) and Matija Nastasić (knee) will both miss the Wembley showdown against the Black Cats.
“We must see if Aguero is 100 per cent fit to play the whole match,” said Pellegrini. “It is something I must decide tomorrow.
“I think it is very important for the team to have Sergio again with us because he is a very important player.
“Jovetic and Nastasić are both injured, and they cannot play. Richard Wright also has a problem with his knee. The rest of the squad is OK.”
The Chilean added: “It is not easy to choose the starting XI. All the players deserve to start.
“It is important for this club to win titles. To win this title at Wembley is very important. We’ve played a very good Capital One cup, and I think it’s very important to win.”
