Pepe Reina has dismissed speculation suggesting he told Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson he wanted to leave the club.

The Daily Mirror claimed Reina had told his manager he wanted to quit Anfield with both Arsenal and Manchester United having been linked with the goalkeeper in recent weeks.

But Liverpool’s number one has denied the rumours and underlined his commitment to the club.

“I have seen a newspaper has made this suggestion. It is completely untrue,” Reina, 28, told Liverpool’s website on Friday.

“I have not told the manager that I wish to leave in January, or at any other time. It is important our fans know this.

“I have a long-term contract at Liverpool and I am fully committed to the club.

“Our new owner met me and some of the other players last week and I was very happy with what he told me.”

Reina, who signed a six-year contract in April to keep him at Anfield until 2016, has featured in 18 games for Liverpool this season.

The Spain international said at the time: “Why commit? Because I am happy here and I think the club is happy too. I see no reason to leave.”

Reina joined Liverpool from Villarreal in 2005 and immediately replaced Jerzy Dudek as the Reds first choice in goal.
