Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck were in relaxed mood ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The England duo were part of the Gunners side that suffered a comprehensive 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

In particular, £16m signing Welbeck was criticised after missing the north London side’s best chances against the 2013 European Cup finalists.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Welbeck appeared in high spirits during their final training session ahead of a tricky trip to Villa Park.

“Caption this….. Welbz playing the guitar,” Oxlade-Chamberlain posted on Instagram.

Before Oxlade-Chamberlain added on Twitter: “I tried to go past Welbz 1v1 today and somehow it ended with him playing guitar….”

Earlier on Friday, Arsene Wenger defended under-fire club-record signing Mesut Ozil.

“Why should Ozil be a scapegoat? We’ve lost one game since 1 April,” said Wenger.

“We had very difficult games against teams like Besiktas. Everybody judges players on one game but football is played with many ups and downs.

“The criticism is unfair because it’s post-World Cup. It takes a few months for them to get back to their best. Fans need to be patient.

“You want your best players in every game but you have to be united and go through hard periods.”
