Cesc Fabregas appears to have wished Abou Diaby well ahead of his Arsenal comeback – by ‘liking’ one of the north London club’s posts on Instagram.
The French midfielder, who has struggled with injuries in recent years, is in line to feature for the Gunners for the first time this season when Arsene Wenger’s men host Southampton in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday.
Arsenal posted the picture above of Diaby in training ahead of the cup clash on their official Instagram feed, along with the message: “Maybe we’ll see Abou #Diaby tonight in #AFCvSFC. Would be great to see him in the #Arsenal team again. #afc #coyg #Gooners #Gunners.”
And Fabregas, who played alongside Diaby at Arsenal during his eight-year spell at the north London club, was among the 20,000 people to ‘like’ the post on the photo-sharing app.
The 27-year-old Spaniard sealed a £27m transfer to Chelsea this summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona.
Fabregas has notched up six assists and one goal in six appearances for Jose Mourinho’s men so far this season.
The midfielder recently revealed that he has not spoken to Wenger since his transfer to Chelsea over the summer.
“It was the kind of relationship I always would have liked to keep,” Fabregas told the Sun.
“On his birthdays, for his 1,000th game, he always had a text message from me. But I don’t expect anything from anyone in life, positive or negative.
“But I’m sure once everything dies down a bit in the future we will talk. There is no problem. I’ll always be grateful to him whatever happens.”
