Steven Gerrard congratulates Jordan Henderson after he is named as Liverpool's new vice-captain
Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Jordan Henderson after the midfielder was named as Liverpool’s new vice-captain.
The England international, who has scored 13 goals in 136 appearances for the Reds, takes the role following the departure of Daniel Agger last month.
Captain Gerrard posted the picture above on Instagram and wrote: “Our new vice captain. He has worked his socks off for this honour. Well done mate.”
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers said that Henderson’s overall attitude makes him the perfect fit for the role.
“Jordan is someone who represents the best values of what we are all about, as a team and as a club,” said Rodgers.
“Both he and Steven are examples to others in how they conduct themselves on and off the pitch. It’s how they live their lives, it’s how they train and it’s how they approach their work.
“Jordan is completely dedicated to the game and his leadership qualities come from the example he sets. It’s another great story for Jordan in his journey as a Liverpool player and it shows the great progress he has made.”
