Juan Mata has thanked new Manchester United team-mate Angel di Maria for his “great assist” as the Spaniard scored in a 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers.
The 26-year-old continued his recent goal-scoring run with the fourth goal of the afternoon as United registered their first competitive win under new manager Louis van Gaal.
British record £59.7m signing Di Maria, who had opened the scoring at Old Trafford, fired in a low ball which Mata lifted over QPR goalkeeper Rob Green in the 58th minute.
Newly-appointed United captain Wayne Rooney scored his second goal of the season, whilst Ander Herrera netted his first Red Devils strike since joining from Athletic Bilbao.
And Mata, who moved to Old Trafford in a £37.1m deal from Chelsea last summer, was quick to pay credit to his new South American team-mate on Instagram following the victory.
“Good win!! Great assist Ángel!” Mata posted on Instagram.
Mata scored his first Premier League goal of the season as United were held to a 1-1 draw with Sunderland last month.
The former Chelsea playmaker has scored seven goals in 18 Premier League appearances since his switch to the Red Devils.
