Novak Djokovic has wasted little time in finding fresh motivation following his US Open exit

Novak Djokovic has wasted little time in finding fresh motivation following his US Open exit.

The top seed was stunned by Kei Nishikori as the Japanese sealed a 6-4 1-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 semi-final win in sweltering conditions in New York on Saturday night.

Djokovic, who is due to play in the Davis Cup for Serbia against India this week, won the Wimbledon title by beating Roger Federer earlier this year.

And the 27-year-old took to his official Instagram account on Sunday evening to show that he is more determined than ever to bounce back from the defeat.

The Serb posted a picture of himself in training in a gym, along with the message: “Pain today is strength tomorrow”.

Djokovic made no excuses for his defeat by Nishikori on Saturday, saying: “I think he just played better in these conditions than I did. I just wasn’t managing to go through the ball in the court.

“It was not easy to play in these conditions, but also he had more hours spent on the court. So it’s no excuse.”
