Ross Barkley hailed Everton’s “brilliant” 4-1 victory over Wolfsburg in the Europa League on Thursday.
Roberto Martinez’s side produced a ruthless performance at Goodison Park as Steven Naismith and Seamus Coleman scored first-half goals to put the Merseyside outfit in control.
Leighton Baines put the Group H clash out of sight with a 47th-minute penalty, before Belgium international Kevin Mirallas sealed the rout in the 89th minute before the visitors scored a late consolation.
England and Everton midfielder Barkley, who missed the European clash due to an ongoing medial ligament injury, lavished praise on his Toffees team-mates on Instagram.
“Brilliant result 4-1,” said Barkley, before adding, “Great start.”
Everton manager Roberto Martinez admitted that the Toffees scored at the “right times” against the German side.
“The atmosphere was perfect for us to start a very good performance,” Martinez said.
“I thought there were two very good sides. On the night the scoreline probably doesn’t reflect the difference between the two sides.
“We scored at the right times. Our work-rate was magnificent. We had to defend and we did that really well but every time we went forward we had a clinical touch about us.”
