Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sets out Arsenal’s targets ahead of Chelsea FC clash
The Arsenal striker outlines his targets for his first full season at the Gunners
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has his sights set on winning the Premier League title in his first full season at Arsenal.
The Gunners signed the Gabon international in a £57m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.
The Arsenal striker scored 10 times in 14 games in all competitions in his opening six months at the north London side.
Aubameyang didn’t win the Bundesliga title during his five seasons at Dortmund despite scoring 141 goals in 213 outings.
Arsenal failed to finish in the Premier League’s top four in their last two seasons under Arsene Wenger before the Frenchman stood down after 22 campaigns in charge.
The Gunners appointed Unai Emery as their new boss in the summer fresh from the Spanish head coach leading Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title in his second season.
Speaking to ESPN about his personal targets for the 2018-19 season, as well as Arsenal’s aims, Aubameyang said:
“Collectively, we want to play every competition to the maximum. We can’t hide. It would be great to end the season with one or more trophies. The league is obviously the priority because it has been a while since Arsenal won it.
“It will be complicated, though, and we know that. Personally, I want to contribute as much as possible with goals and assists. I don’t have a figure in mind but I really [think] it will be a very good season like the ones I had in the past at Dortmund.”
Aubameyang failed to get on the score sheet in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to defending Premier League champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
The Arsenal striker may have to be patient in pursuit of a first Premier League title given the size of the rebuild job at the north London outfit.
