QPR 0 Man United 2: Sir Alex hails ‘amazing’ Giggs after Red Devils win
QPR 0 Man United 2: Sir Alex Ferguson singled out Rafael and Ryan Giggs for special praise after Red Devils move 15 points clear
Sir Alex Ferguson heaped praise on goal-scorers Rafael and Ryan Giggs as Manchester United opened up a 15-point lead over Manchester City with victory at Queens Park Rangers.
Rafael fired the visitors into the lead in stunning fashion in the 23rd minute when the Brazilian smashed home from 20 yards.
Giggs then marked his 999th senior appearance for club and country with a goal 10 minutes from time to wrap up the win for the Red Devils.
The result puts Ferguson’s men in a commanding position at the top of the table, with City set to host Chelsea at Eastlands on Sunday.
And Ferguson singled out Rafael and Giggs for special praise after watching his side take another step closer to a 20th top-flight title.
“Rafael’s goal was fantastic – it was probably goal of the month,” Ferguson told BBC Sport. “Robin van Persie also had a great run and strike but the keeper saved it.
“You have to get that second goal and Ryan Giggs has a great record of scoring here. He’s delivered again – he’s an amazing man.”
Ferguson also moved to play down concerns over Van Persie’s fitness after the striker was forced off before half-time after crashing into a pitchside ditch reserved for television cameras.
Ferguson added: “Van Persie seems to have collided with the camera dugout. We will assess him tomorrow – it was his hip. It will be tender but hopefully he will be all right in time for the Real Madrid game.”
