David Moyes branded Steven Pienaar’s sending off “a ludicrous decision” after Everton were held to a draw by Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

The South Africa international was issued his marching orders for a tackle from behind on Jose Bosingwa in the 62nd minute after the former Tottenham man was booked in the first half.

QPR had taken the lead in the second minute courtesy of a superb solo-effort from Junior Hoilett, before Sylvain Distin’s header resulted in a Júlio Cesar own goal before the interval.

“I think sending a player off under the circumstances is a ludicrous decision, I really do,” Moyes told BBC Sport.

“We had the same referee against West Brom he didn’y have a good game that day and he hasn’t again today.

“The referee must have known he was on a yellow card.

“It ruined our opportunity to go and win three points but the players did well to hang on to get something out of the game.”

Moyes reserved praise for centre-half Phil Jagielka after the England international helped Everton secure a valuable point as QPR pressed for a winner in the second half.

“Jagielka played like a true England centre-half today,” Moyes added.

“All the boys at the back played well, but I single him out because he got a couple of really good strong blocks in.

“It was a hard fought point. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy because QPR have got something to go to move up, but we are quite pleased we got something from the game in the end.”
