Mark Hughes admitted Queens Park Rangers did not deserve to beat West Ham United after the Hoops slumped to their fourth defeat of the season on Monday night.

West Ham’s £11m summer signing Matt Jarvis netted a second-minute header to give the visitors an early lead, before Ricardo Vaz Te doubled their first-half advantage.

QPR, who were particularly poor in the opening period, improved after the interval, and substitute Adel Taarabt scored a spectacular strike to give the Hoops hope of a comeback.

But Hughes’ side were unable to conjure up an equaliser, with pressure increasing on the QPR manager with the west London outfit languishing in 20th place.

“We were very poor, certainly in the first half where we were second to every ball and didn’t get anywhere near to the level we need to be at to get results in the Premier League,” said Hughes.

“In the second half we made a better fist of it. Adel Taarabt came on and scored great goal which gave us a bit of momentum and at that point I fancied us to get us the second goal. But the sending off has obviously killed that momentum.

“We are desperately disappointed about that first-half performance because we are much better than that.”
