Harry Redknapp admits that Bobby Zamora’s suspension is a huge blow to Queens Park Rangers’ bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The 32-year-old was issued with a straight red in the Hoops’s 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic on Sunday for a high tackle on Latics midfielder Jordi Gomez in the 21st minute.

The England international is now set to serve a three-game ban, which means the striker will miss QPR’s must-win fixtures against Everton, Stoke City and Reading.

Redknapp talked up the potential partnership between Loic Remy and Zamora when he signed the France star in January, and the Hoops boss admitted his frustration that injuries and suspension have prevented the pair from firing QPR to safety.

“Bobby’s sending off was a rash decision and missing him for three games is a big loss,” Redknapp said.

“It was a crazy challenge and it’s cost us dearly because we lost him for most of that game and for the next three matches. He should be disappointed.

“He’s not 100 per cent fit, you can see that, but he’s still a good player.

“When Bobby and Remy have played together we always look like we’re going to win, but we can’t get the partnership together.

“Often one of them has been injured and now Bobby’s suspended. This has cost us dearly.

“Remy’s our joint leading goalscorer now with five goals. That’s been the problem here – we’ve had no one to score goals.

“How can you have a leading goal scorer who’s only scored five goals? It’s almost impossible.”
