Harry Redknapp has revealed his transfer plans for Queens Park Rangers in January will be dictated by the Hoops’ results over the next four weeks.

QPR face Aston Villa at Loftus Road on Saturday, with the west London outfit rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and eight points behind Paul Lambert’s side, who are in 17th.

Redknapp, who was unveiled as Mark Hughes’ replacement on Monday, has already been linked with a host of possible signings as the transfer window looms.

Among the touted targets is out-of-favour Villa striker Darren Bent, but the 65-year-old believes QPR can ill-afford to spend money on new signings if their performances and results don’t improve.

“Darren Bent is a good player – they paid £20m for him but I’m not even looking at January,” said Redknapp.

“It’s the games between now and the transfer window which will decide where we are going.

“If we don’t get maximum points and wins in that period, what’s the point of putting yourself in trouble and buying players when you get yourself lumbered with a big wage bill next year.

“It’s not the situation we want and we need to pick some points up. We can look at it [possible signings] in January.”

The R’s managed a goalless draw with Sunderland in Redknapp’s first game in charge, and the QPR boss wants his players to match that display against Villa.

“I was pleased the other night, I thought we played well,” added Redknapp.

“The work-rate was great and we played some good football and I couldn’t have been more pleased with them.

“We’ve got to carry that on tomorrow. If we can give the fans something to cheer with a real workman-like performance, with plenty of effort and play our football, we’ve got a chance.

“You’ve only got to look at the league table. Of course it’s going to be tough. We’ll give it our best, that’s all we can do.”
