QPR’s Redknapp excited by prospect of Remy-Zamora partnership

Harry Redknapp says he plans to partner new signing Loic Remy with Bobby Zamora in the hope the pair can fire Queens Park Rangers to Premier League safety.

The France international finally completed a much-anticipated £8m move from Marseille on Wednesday, penning a four-and-a-half-year deal at to Loftus Road.

QPR have managed just 17 Premier League goals this season – the lowest tally in the top flight – with midfielder Adel Taarabt top-scoring with four strikes.

With Zamora expected to return from injury in the coming weeks, Redknapp believes Remy and the former Fulham man can forge a promising strike partnership to provide the club with the goals needed to survive.

“I’ve brought another striker in,” said Redknapp. “Hopefully Bobby Zamora is on his way back too.

“I’m a big fan of Zamora and his return will be a real bonus for us. I think Remy and Zamora could be a real partnership.”

The Hoops manager has openly admitted his admiration for Remy over the past couple of seasons, with the 65-year-old also pursuing the France international during his reign at Tottenham Hotspur.

QPR assistant manager Kevin Bond likened Remy to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry on Friday morning, and although the QPR manager played down that comparison, he believes the striker can be a big hit in England.

“Thierry Henry was an amazing player wasn’t he? I don’t think you could compare too many players around the world to the standards which he set,” added Redknapp.

“But Remy’s movement is fantastic, he’s quick, and I’ve always liked him.

“I looked at him when I was at Tottenham but the price was very high at the time, but I thought the level it came down to was a good price for a player of that quality.”
